It was the coldest day yet 6C and it was meant to rain although this never happened and by the end the blue of the sky showed itself. We had a big day, we guessed 130kms and we had to negotiate our way through a city. Our progress was dealt a blow when road works had left the road a wet muddy mess which meant swallowing pride and getting off and pushing the bikes through. This worked for a while until the mud that was thick enough to clog up my mud guards so Loon had to help push my bike up the hill,  we then did the same with Loons bike. It was then a roll down the hill where i hope some of the mud would work its way out.

When we stopped for lunch i scraped out as much of the mud i could but before we left we sat round a fire that was lit on the street and the owner gave us a charcoaled burnt potato.  As we set off a few drops of rained meant we were straight on with the waterproofs, luckily it never came to anything and when the sun came out the waterproofs were staright off.

I ran completely out of energy and filled up on four sugar filled steamed buns to get me to the finish line in Kunming which was looking like we’d arrive in the dark. Darkness fell and from the information people had given us and my GPS we had a way to go. After an hour of cycling in the dark with the heavy traffic and huge number of electric scooters which did not use lights to save their batteries made the riding way too gnarly so we checked into a guesthouse just on out shirks of the city.

The guesthouse was in an interesting area, there was a sex shop next door and a few dodgy looking characters but being about a foot taller than most people i felt pretty safe. It was late by the time i got to sleep and freezing cold, the blanket wasn’t long enough and left my feet outside to freeze, wasn’t till later in the night i realised the blanket was the wrong way on.
